How to find healthy dog food can be difficult and confusing. There are so many diets to choose from hopefully, this will help you. Choosing the correct food for your dog will make a huge difference in his or her health and enjoyment.
It may seem impossible to find the perfect dog food for your fur baby, I have spent hours trying to find the best for my pooch.
When choosing the right dog food, you have to consider your dog’s weight, height, breed and age. These are all important things to take into account as a working dog will need more calories than a puppy.
Ensuring your dog has the correct diet is so that you avoid any health issues.
1. Read the ingredients
Did you know that dog food labelled “with beef” must only contain 4% beef and dog food labelled “beef flavoured” doesn’t have to contain any! Shocking isn’t it? Also, when reading the label, it’s best if the meat content is at the top as this shows it has a higher content in the food.
2. Wet or Dry Food?
You can feed your dog wet or dry food or a combination of both. The best dry dog food will have a high protein content and low carb content and be made with high-quality ingredients. Wet dog food is very appealing to the dog and has a high water content so will keep your pooch hydrated.
3. Does your dog have allergies? Should you buy hypoallergenic dog food?
Some pets may be sensitive to certain ingredients and this could cause a variety of problems for you and your pet. Some symptoms to look out for include hyperactive behaviour, skin problems, ear problems bloating or weight gain. The most common intolerance appear to be in the sugars, wheat, soy milk and colourings. If your pet shows any of these signs contact your vet.
My dog has a mixture of wet and dry food, his favourite dry food I have found is PetLife Complete by Simply Naturals they use a combination of natural ingredients including Plant Derived Minerals, Omega 3’s and Vitamins.
The wet dog food he loves is Forthglade Natural Wet Dog Food. I get this from Amazon in bulk as I find this is cheaper for me.
Enjoy life, stay healthy
