Finding a healthy and nutritious breakfast if you have diabetes can be difficult as many include high carbohydrates. 

It’s common for people with diabetes to need to keep track of their blood sugar levels. This involves keeping track of how many carbs you intake.

When thinking of what to eat in the morning it’s good to consider foods that are high in protein and fibre and have healthy fats and are low in carbs.

Here are some breakfast ideas.

Avocados are a great source of fibre that can help stop your blood sugar rise. If you also have it with multigrain or brown bread this can benefit you with the extra fibre.

Eggs are a great choice for people with diabetes. Not only are they tasty but you can enjoy them in multiple ways. Due to their high protein content eggs are a great choice, you can have them scrambled, poached, boiled or fried. Even a yummy omelette which you can add different vegetables each time.

Overnight Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are a great addition to any breakfast for people with diabetes as they are high in fibre. Chia seeds can help reduce your blood sugar levels by delaying the rate at which food passes through your digestive system and gets absorbed into the bloodstream.

Berry Smoothie

A breakfast smoothie made with Greek yogurt is a great breakfast as it’s packed with protein and help keep you fuller for longer.

Eating a healthy and filling breakfast will make a big difference to your day. Switching from white to wholegrain versions are a better choice for people with diabetes. Swapping jams for healthy alternatives like mashed bananas.
